Ten Two Twelve

I’ve had this quilt done for a little while, but am just now getting around to taking pictures/posting it. I love everything about this quilt. The fabric (thank you Julie!), the hand quilted chevron pattern (yummmm, hand quilting makes it exceptionally soft and yummy), the pieced binding, the orange polka dot backing. It makes me so happy and even though it is still 86 degrees outside, I am snuggling up in it at night – just because.

The Specs:
57 inches x 75 inches
Jack + Lulu: It's a Shore Thing pieced quilt top {Cabana Stripe in Red and Navy, Seagulls in Navy and Blue, Polka Dot in Red, Navy and Orange, Sling Chair in Red and Blue and Beach Umbrella in Aqua and Navy}
Jack + Lulu: It's a Shore Thing backing {Polka Dot in Orange}
Pieced binding using fabrics from quilt top
Chevron quilting using Perle Cotton Thread {in White and Medium Tangerine}

Nine Eighteen Twelve

I whipped up this little baby blanket today while Macey was at school. The white fabric is a super soft sheet from Target, and the rest of the pieces are scraps from other projects.  I love a project that I can start and (mostly) finish in one day. This will be one of Beck’s Blankets*. Love these sweet gifts of love.

I think my favorite part of this quilt is the backing. Such a lovely little flower print. I picked it up a few years ago when it was on clearance and wish I’d have gotten a few more yards of it.

*Each year we (myself, my amazing family, and some very, very generous friends) make enough quilts for each baby in the NICU at St. Mark’s Hospital. We deliver them on Christmas Eve to the staff at St. Mark’s and ask the staff to leave them for each family as they come to visit their babies on Christmas Day. We do this in honor of our son Beck, who passed away at St. Mark’s Hospital, and in honor of our daughter, Macey, who was the recipient of a beautiful gift the Christmas that she spent in the hospital.

Five Twenty-Nine Twelve

Have you ever made a gift for someone that was totally unappreciated? This was one of those gifts. Macey was in preschool this year. She had a teacher (who had a googly eye, btw) and two assistants. Towards the end of the school year I noticed that one of the assistants was starting to get a bit of a belly. Either she was eating too many gummy bears (no, no, that is me), or she was expecting. I discreetly asked Mrs. Googly Eye if she was indeed expecting a little bambino (you never want to assume), and was told that yes! she was expecting a little girl. So I quickly got to work making this sweet little baby blanket. I love the way it turned out.

The Specs:

36 inches x 42 inches
Violet Craft: Peacock Lane Parade Day Front
Violet Craft: Peacock Lane Meadow Backing
Gray polka dot binding
Simple diagonal quilting
Several rows of hand quilting using Perle cotton thread

The funniest part was that she didn’t even really like it. She apparently had to ask her mom what it was (hello? have you never seen a blanket before???). Oh well. I loved it and with any luck, she’ll donate it to the local thrift store and I can buy it back. Ha ha!

One Twenty-Three Twelve

Funny story: Once upon a time we had a couple of foreign exchange students living with us. There was a lot of drama (oh like, for instance, a flooded basement the first day they were here), but that is a story for another day.  Due to said drama, we needed to find a foreign-exchange-sitter/house-sitter to come stay at our house while we went on a 10 day vacation.  And so we bribed asked Aunt Steph to come. I promised her I would make it worth her time.  And so I introduce “Steph’s Gamepet” (as Macey affectionately titled it).  I’m not going to lie-I love this blanket. I had a hard time letting it go!

The specs:

51.5 inches x 57 inches
288 3-inch squares
3 inch border
1930’s reproduction fabric backing
Green pieced binding
Simple, diagonal quilting

Eleven Eighteen Eleven

And she’s all done. Quilted, bound, done. Just in the nick of time too. I think she turned out pretty. In fact, I’d say that I love her.

Nine Twenty-Nine Eleven

This little gem is for a new nephew named Naman (alliteration anyone?). Naman’s mom served an LDS Mission in Japan, so these little Japanese prints (picked up at Quilt Market, SLC 2011) were perfect for this new little guy.  Welcome to the world, Naman!

The specs:
34 inches x 40 inches
340 2-inch squares
Yellow polka dot backing
Yellow polka dot binding
